International Competition for Design students and professionals
The Paredes Centre of Furniture Design, in partnership with ID+ (Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture), launches the Art on Chairs International Design Competition, a competition to add value to the product in the furniture industries of Paredes region.
The purpose is to identify and disseminate innovative and original solutions aimed at industrial and craft production of chairs by the furniture industries of Paredes.
The awarded projects plus the respective prototypes, as well as the remaining proposals initially selected, will be part of the international exhibition Art on Chairs, taking place at Paredes and starting on September 2012
The jury of the Art on Chairs International Design Competition will be presided by designer Henrique Cayatte.

Competition for residences in furniture companies.

A creative experience in the furniture industry for Design graduates and professionals.
In association with ID+ (Institute for Design, Media and Culture Research) and ESAD (Arts and Design School of Matosinhos), the Paredes Centre of Furniture Design assigns, through a competition, nine grants for residences of Portuguese and foreign designers in the furniture companies of the Paredes region.
The residences will have a duration of eight months and each resident will be supervised by a tutor/senior designer.
During the residences, a documentary will be produced for the Art on Chairs international exhibition, which will take place from September to November 2012. The works developed during the residence will also be displayed at the exhibition.

Competition for the Paredes' Open Circuit of Public Art

Competition of contemporary urban art, for artists of any nationality.
The competition for the Open Circuit of Public Art (OCPA) is promoted by the Science and Arts Technology Research Center (Centro de Investigação em Ciência e Tecnologia das Artes - CITAR) of the School of Arts at the Portuguese Catholic University - Porto's Regional Centre, hired by the Municipality of Paredes for its development). The goal is to select six artists and their works to integrate the OCPA, to be inaugurated in Paredes in 2012.
The circuit will extend itself along the consolidated urban area, using the heritage, the landscape and the commercial streets as rooms of an open museum, stimulating the pleasure of seeing, the experience of art and the relation of proximity between artist and spectator.
Along with the works selected at the competition, the OCPA will include works of well-known artists such as Alberto Carneiro, Rui Chafes, José Pedro Croft, Ângela Ferreira, Fernanda Fragateiro, Rita McBride and Didier Fiuza Faustino.
