Within the framework of the XXIInd Entretiens Jacques Cartier, the Cité du design of Saint-Etienne, France, organizes, in partnership with the City of Montreal and the University of Montreal, the conference "Cities as design labs" on November 30th and December 1st 2009.

Experts (designers, architects, urban planners, academics...) from Copenhagen - Dortmund - Eindhoven -  Montreal - Palma de Mallorca - Paris - Portland - Région Pays de la Loire -Région Rhône-Alpes - Saint-Etienne - Seoul - Toronto will get together to share experiences and positions on the following questions :
-       How is design included in the strategic development of the cities?
-       What kind of measures, actions and projects are set up to respond to the current issues ?
-       How to consider the central role of design for cities future?
 

This conference is included in the Cité du design official opening programme, and follows the conference "New design cities" organized in Montreal in October 2004.
