BOOK IN FASHION Fashion Design Competition:

1st Prize: Lidija Lovrić, Textile Technology Faculty Zagreb, Croatia

The opening and listing the book were the main inspiration of the project »The Scrolling body« in which the designer developes new three dimensional forms of clothing using origami, traditional technique of folding paper. Varied  silhouettes of the collection and new three dimensional forms make interesting and fresh collection of women's clothes which connected two different cultures, the culture of western civilization which is symbolized by white shirt and culture of Far East.

2nd Prize: Csik Orsolta, Moholy - Nagy University of Art and Design, Budapest, Hungary

The collection was inspired by old books with strong feeling of texture. The clothing recreated the organic materials, layered pages bounded together, primary shapes, straightforward cuts... The sophisticated collection of urban clothing is a result of good choise of light colours, different materials  and  perfect  forms.

3rd Prize: Wioleta Zakoga, Strzeminsky Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Lodz, Poland

The project developes the idea of  pop-up books, which enable transformation and bring the surprise. The collection which based on the story of The Little Prince is in simple forms of clean geometric shapes in white colours. Every clothing hides a surprise. The opening and changing of certain part of clothing enables it to become multifunctional. The collection represents innovative and modern way of thinking.

TEXTILE BOOK Textile Design Competition

1st PrizeAtaphol Sujirapinyokul, The Swedish School of Textiles, Borås, Sweden

The book shows the appearing process of three-dimensional knitting that grows into different independent objects in the space with new functional possibilities and settings up. It could be a lamp, a cushion or a carpet, a knitting to be covered with or a multifunctional object for human environment. The author made an excellent use of various characteristics of textile material: flexibility, changeability and colour.

2nd Prize:: Jiabin Lu, The Communication University of China, Nanjing, The Department of Art and Design, Hong Kong

The language of colours, shiny surfaces, the touch of landscape, symbolism of design and refined sensitivity for soft effects are put together in a harmonic wholeness. The precise look of a machine made embroidery is gently accompanied with modern prints, an inspiring concept. With this fine example the contrast between traditional and up-to-date, between different cultures is brought together into a global tongue that makes the dialog between different cultures richer and more fruitful.

Selected candidates are asked to create 1 outfit + accessories or a textile book to be shown at the Exhibition in May 2010 in Ljubljana. They are invited to take part at the opening of the exhibition where the prizes will be awarded. A detailed programme and information on the event will be sent to the selected designers.
