The 2010 Saint-Etienne International Design Biennial, that will take place from the 20th of November to the 5th of December 2010, would like to collect images from students of art and design schools for the "Ville mobile" (Mobile City) exhibition

For this exhibition, dealing with mobility in the city, we are looking to collect images or films about urban mobility. What we are looking for is a wide variety of means of transport, filmed or photographed whilst in operation, information/guidelines aimed at pedestrians in the city, dense traffic, flows of people, bicycles and cycle lanes, couriers, delivery staff, flows of light at night, anything which has something to say about movement in the city and the ways in which people live.

Obviously we need to think about the characteristic aspects of transport in each of the towns and cities, thus allowing us to talk about the differences - both in cultural terms and in the types of transport used - brought about by certain climates or cultures. For instance, in Rio people can get on and off a tram while it is moving, which you cannot do in Europe. Images showing these free movements with people getting on and off trams are of interest. In the Netherlands, lots of people get around on bicycles, but obviously this is a lot more difficult in hot countries.

We can imagine that there might be films shot from various means of transport - what do we see and at what speed? There might also be sound recordings and maps of these real or virtual flows (the sending of e-mails, information, knowledge) are also of interest for us.

These images and films need to be royalty-free. We will edit them and they will contribute to a collective film in which each of you will be credited for your collaboration.
