The Global Age-Friendly Design Awards (GADA) 2010 is back to draw more participants. The competition, organised by >60 Design Centre Singapore's National Design Centre for Ageing, hopes to attract and motivate designers who have a passion for designing products that cater to the lifestyle of senior citizens.

Previously known as International Design Awards in 2008, the competition drew interest from

more than 200 participants from Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.

This year it hopes to increase the number of entries from both local and international design

communities and agencies.

The theme for this year's competition is "Redefining Age" and the organiser hopes to bring in an

element of business strategy into the competition.

"GADA 2010 is an opportunity for all designers, professionals or students, to submit their ideas on products that can enhance and change the lifestyles of the elderly. We are also hoping that

winning ideas can be adopted by corporations and be developed into products (for the elderly)

that can be of use to people across the globe," said Mr. Moses Wong, Director of >60 Design

Centre.

"Statistics show that people are living longer and in organising the Contest annually, I hope more

people will be motivated to start thinking about design solutions in buildings, public spaces,

products and services that are able to embrace the lifestyle of our seniors," said Ms. Chrisandra

Heng, Design Director of Simon Chrisandra Associates.

GADA 2010 is opened to all designers from professionals to students as well as the general

public. Shortlisted finalists from the competition will be given the opportunity to display their

designs at a design conference, International Conference on Design for Ageing (ICODA)

scheduled for November this year. The showcase aims to provide an opportunity for participants

and designers to present their designs to an international cast of designers, institutions and global

companies.

An esteemed panel of judges is being assembled to judge this exciting competition. Criteria for

judging will be based on product designs that show innovativeness in solutions, good commercial

value and manufacturability, which are relevant to the target market. Products must also be easyto-

use and aesthetically-pleasing.

Submission of entries for GADA 2010 closes on September 26, 2010. For more information on
