Dr. Ron Burnett Awarded Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres

Dr. Ron Burnett, President + Vice-Chancellor

The French government has bestowed the prestigious award of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) on Dr. Ron Burnett, President + Vice-Chancellor of Emily Carr University of Art + Design. The official ceremony will take place June 3, 2010.

The award is in recognition of Dr. Burnett's contribution to Canadian and international culture through his work as one of the founders of Film and Cultural Studies in Canada, his constant and lifetime interaction with French scholars, his over 150 publications and books and his fourteen years of leadership as the President of Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Dr. Burnett is also being honoured for his efforts to strengthen academic relationships between Canada and France.

Director of the DuocUC School of Design Carlos Hinrichsen will receive the decoration of ‘'Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finland'' that has been awarded to him by Her Excellency the President of Finland, Ms. Tarja Halonen, in recognition of his valuable contribution to the development of Design education, innovation and advocacy in Chile and Finland, and the collaboration between both countries.

The ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 8^th 2010.
