Parsons Paris, an established school of art and design located in central Paris, is currently seeking a

new Academic Director.

 

Parsons Paris School of Art + Design promotes the artistic and intellectual maturation of promising

students into exceptional professional artists, designers and design managers through a rigorous art,

design and liberal arts education. Parsons Paris emphasizes the ethical role of creative disciplines,

viewing art and design practice as meaningful and necessary contributions to society. Contemporary

methods of visual production are taught on the foundation of traditional skills in the fine arts. The school

aims to be a supportive, creative community of committed students, faculty, administration and alumni.

We are looking to continue our growth and success and are seeking the right team leader to take us to

the next level.

 

The Academic Director defines the vision for the school's pedagogical development and implements

effective methods of achieving academic goals. Responsibilities include program oversight and curricular

development, ensuring academic standards for accreditation, approval of faculty hiring, and leadership

of faculty and students. As the highest academic official of the school, the Academic Director is also

instrumental in forging and maintaining academic relationships with pedagogical partners and in the

development and integration of new programs. The Department Chairs and Coordinators report to the

Academic Director who oversees all academic departments, ensuring that they all function coherently

and in accordance with the mission of the school.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:

Demonstrated academic leadership and substantial professional experience in arts administration

Proven capabilities in upper-level management

Outstanding level of professional achievement

Established network of worldwide industry contacts

Thorough knowledge of US credit systems and accreditation methodologies

Familiarity with French accreditation systems essential, knowledge of European and Asian-Pacific

and methodologies a plus

A commitment to education and the fostering of inter-disciplinary programming and curricular

innovation

Experience living and working internationally

Extensive experience in budget management

Ability to motivate, inspire and manage the Academic Department Heads, assuring the successful,

efficient and cost effective functioning of the Academic Structure

A terminal degree in a related field of study

French and English fluency

Excellent oral and written communication skills

 

The key duties for this position include (but are not limited to) the following:

Provide leadership of Department Heads, faculty and students.

Define and implement strategic vision for all current educational programs of the school:

Fine Arts Communication Design

Illustration Photography

Foundation Fashion

Design Management Critical Studies

Develop new academic programs on Undergraduate, Graduate, and Doctoral levels

Direct and oversee academic administration and coordination with non-academic administration

Assure institutional adherence to academic and institutional standards required by the National

Association of Schools of Art and Design, Middle States Commission for Higher Education, the

Rectorat of Paris and other external program quality evaluators

Act as key representative of Parsons Paris School of Art + Design in local and international

educational communities

Create partnerships with other schools and institutions

The Academic Director reports directly to the President, and will work closely with both the President

and the Marketing and Operations Director.

 

 

Pedagogical Proposal:

The Pedagogical Proposal should contain a description of a candidate's related experience and interests

as they apply to the requirements of the position. This should include educational philosophy, approach

to direction and management of academic administration, faculty and students, ideas for curricular

development and vision for developing the educational programs offered at Parsons Paris.
