SUMMARY OF MISSION STATEMENT
To shape imagination through the delivery of art and design education at the undergraduate and graduate levels in a learning enviroment that integrates studio-based education with historical, critical and scientific inquiry; to integrate our research, undertaken with extensive partnerships, into our undergraduate and graduate teaching environment; to offer disciplinary and integrated cross-disciplinary opportunities for cultural and lifelong learning in concert with local, national and international communities; and to contribute to the field of emerging technology.
THE ROLE OF THE MEMBER UNIT IN INTERNATIONAL SECTOR AND ITS COLLABORATION WITH PARTNER UNIVERSITIES AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS
OCAD focuses on buiding relationships on the international level to identify collaborative opportunities. Through faculty and student exchange agreements and collaborative research initiatives, OCAD aims to become a respected bridge buildger, linkng its internatioal academic life, alumni, cultural communities and organizations, professional associatios, interest groups, governments, and diverse communities at home and aborad. This is done with a view to promote the sharing of knowledge and the developmnet of research activity.
THE ROLE OF THE MEMBER UNIT IN NATIONAL AND REGIONAL SECTORS AND IN HOME CITY AND ITS COLLABORATION WITH PARTNER UNIVERSITIES, ASSOCIATIONS, INDUSTRIAL AND BUSINESS CONNECTIONS AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS.
OCAD functions as a hybrid - first as a university of art and design, second as a cultural institution, and third as a partner institution able to intervene effectivley to meet the needs of diverse communities. We are working collaboratively with the three other Toronto universities in the development of our graduate programs. We have obtained government funding and major industrial support to undertaken a major research project on the cultural and entertainment industries with two of the other Toronto universities. We hold major funding from the federal Canadian government for mobility research. OCAD's galley and exhibition program is a key instrument in providing a showcase for contemporary art and design. And the provision of cultural leadership to the City of Toronto is seen as a major role.
