Our faculty with many close relations to other faculties of the University of Duisburg-Essen with more than 30,000 students is located at Campus Essen in the Northern center of town within the Ruhr area with 5 millions of inhabitants. The main campus of Folkwang Hochschule for Music, Dance, Theatre is in the south of Essen (1,200 students).

There is a high degree of interdisciplinary integration of artistic and scientific aspects, which exceeds the mere aesthetic elements of design by far and provides the possibility for a doctorate at the only chair of design sciences in Germany.

SUMMARY OF MISSION STATEMENT
The practice-related design work with corporations and industry, i.e. the research of highly relevant problems and questions, keeps our program up-to-date and reality based. Students should recognize the social character of design and be aware of their responsibility in realizing their tasks.
THE ROLE OF THE MEMBER UNIT IN INTERNATIONAL SECTOR AND ITS COLLABORATION WITH PARTNER UNIVERSITIES AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS
As Co-founder of Cumulus we maintain close collaboration with partner universities in nearly every European country as well as international cooperation with Australia, Costa Rica, Israel, Singapore, USA, New Zealand
