mission statement

The mission of the school is: To offer academic, profession-oriented bachelor- and graduate educations at the highest level within the field of architecture, plus PhD-education within architectural fields. To offer profession-oriented supplementary and further education within architectural fields up to and including master level. To perform research and artistic development work at the highest level directed at continuously qualifying the education, the practice of the profession, and the inter-disciplinary integration of architecture.

international role

The Aarhus School of Architecture participates in the Erasmus and Nordplus programmes (student exchange). AAA also cooperates with a large number of foreign architecture firms (practical training).

national role

The Aarhus School of Architecture cooperates with other educational institutions (project work, workshops etc) and with public and private firms (practical training).

main focus

The officially stipulated time of study of the education at the Aarhus School of Architecture is five years: a three-year Bachelor education and a two-year Master education. Bachelor of Arts in Architecture: During the first part of the education, basic architectural subjects and disciplines are taught: sketching, building technology, architectural history and theory etc. The first year’s themes are: space, form, function, construction and context; the second year: architectural planning and architectural design. Students have a fixed curriculum for each year. By the end of the first year the students have to pass an examination to be admitted to further studies. The assessment of the Bachelor-studies after six semesters is carried out with external examiners. Master of Arts in Architecture: The duration of studies is two years. The aim is to give the student the competence to practise the architectural profession in one or more of the specialized fields of the profession or to finish PhD-studies.

Exchange students can select any of the five departments. For CUMULUS students the Department of Design is the most relevant department.

cost of living per month (studying and living)

5000 DKK (living) Applicants from non-EU/EEA countries enrolling as new regular or visiting students at the Aarhus School of Architecture are from 1 January 2008 required to pay tuition fee. Students exchanged on a bilateral agreement with the Aarhus School of Architecture do not have to pay the tuition fee, and neither do students with a permanent Danish residence permit. The amount of the fee has not yet been fixed, but will probably be in the vicinity of 10-12,000 EURO (60 ECTS) The tuition fee is payable biannually. Not included in the tuition fee are books and course material.
