Kuopio Academy of Design focuses on the research and development of user centered design. We engage in regional development by enhancing our R&D, our innovation environments and systems. Kuopio Academy of Design is committed to the communal values of the Savonia University of Applied Sciences. We are an expert organisation operating in the present and we seek to be a pioneer oriented towards the future.
The international operations of Kuopio Academy of Design support its overall development in culture and the arts. The international operations are conducted in accordance with the objectives and policies laid down in the curriculum and the R&D plan. They are regarded as a channel for professional networking for students and teachers, and for experts as a means of seeking and establishing R&D partnerships in support of their own operations. Its international connections are also a means for Kuopio Academy of Design to enhance and supplement its own specialist know-how. International operations take the form of staff, student and trainee exchanges, expert partnerships and visits both through EU programmes and under bilateral agreements. We are also members in several international design association and networks.
Kuopio Academy of Design has a central role for the design development in Eastern Finland. It's the largest design intitute of the area. It also has a central role in the R&D work with regional comapnies. Academy runs around 100 design projects per year with regional companies and other partners. Academy also has strong partnership with Univerity of Kuopio and University of Joensuu. The Academy also collaborates with several Finnish research institutes and centers regularly.
Our practise based learning path is formed around a learning environment that integrates R&D, learning and practical working life. The teaching and learning, research and development take the form of a project-based line of action in accordance with the focal areas of the University of Applied Sciences. We: • carry out joint multidisciplinary projects with businesses and other expert organisations • focus on workshop based, virtual, and multidisciplinary learning environments and individual study plans • develop our R&D and project management so as to support learning,

Kuopio Academy of Design offers two Degree Programmes: Degree Programme in Design, BA in Arts and Design Degree Programme in Graphic Design, BA in Graphic Design The Bachelor (BA) level Degree Programmes lasts four years and amount to 240 ECTS credits.
