University of Gothenburg HDK - Academy of Design and Crafts

mission statement

HDK – School of Design and Crafts offers programmes in both Gothenburg and at Steneby, in Dals Långed. Based in its long traditions in design and crafts HDK currently has a holistic attitude and advanced problem-solving competence towards design and the development and renewal of applied art and crafts. Humanism, artistic freedom, accountability, professional competence and commercial benefit are inter-wined with theoretical studies and research. At HDK you will be given the opportunity to both design and reflect – working in a diversity of different materials, shapes and sizes. Here you will get both the inspiration and the perspective to produce artistic work that can be related to society, history and theory. Whether you wish to examine an object's relationship to public space or a piece of jewellery's relationship to the person who's wearing it, HDK can offer both the knowledge and the workshop facilities to make your ideas become reality. HDK has a total workshop space of 5 612 square metres, of which 3 768 are located at Steneby in Dals Långed. Nordic network D&R Design
