Summary
Mission
The purpose of the ESAD Orleans is to educate and train students who will become creative artists fully integrated into society, also adaptable to employment opportunities.
Students are encouraged to become autonomous, to develop their sense of personal commitment and creative potential through studio practice, historical and critical studies, lectures and work placements. Teaching is delivered by members of staff who are all practitioners, whether they are Artists, Architects, Designers, Sociologists, Historians, Philosophers, Scientists.
Teaching is mainly studio-based and in year 4,the academic syllabus is based on the “Arcs ": Ateliers de Recherche et de Création ": Workshops in Research and Creation. The students work mainly on self-initiated projects and can explore a personal and experimental approach thanks to a wide range of facilities including wood and metal workshops, model-making, photography, video, multimedia, silkscreen-printing, printmaking, computer graphics, desktop publishing, digital design technologies, CAD/CAM and robotics.
The teaching philosophy is to empower students to develop as individuals capable of choosing the future career path which would best suit their interests whether they want to work in freelance or for a Company or even set up their own agency. They can become Interior or Landscape Designers, Exhibition Designers, Furniture Designers, Industrial Designers, Multimedia or Graphic Designers, Illustrators, Art Directors, Film Animators, Video Artists or Photographers.
International role
The contact with other cultures, other looks, other teaching methods or artistic approaches seem essential in a world which is constantly evolving and which therefore demands to be more and more flexible. Thanks to various Student mobility programmes such as Erasmus or the Crepuq (for Universities in Quebec) the ESAD Orleans receives students of various nationalities and sends about 50% of the 4th year students every year.
The school also tries and develops teaching staff exchange programmes.
The Institute of Visual Arts is a member of ART ACCORD, the association of French Art Schools for the International Relations (president: Josyane FRANC, Art School of St Etienne)
