Summary
Mission
We see our mission as promoting higher level of design culture in Russia through works of our students, to educate our students in accordance to timely issues and challenges in design. We try to use the background of traditional Russian art education and to expand it by implementing modern digital technologies, making the result more interactive and innovative. That’s why international connections to other design institutions are very important for us to be on modern lines in design and visual culture.
International role
Department of IT in Design has educational agreements in force with universities in Finland (Kymenlaakson University of Applied Sciences), Germany (HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts), France (École de Communication Visuelle) and Italy (Politecnico di Milano). The activities between the partner universities include not only students and teacher exchanges, but also interchange of ideas and information on design competitions inside and outside of Russia.
There are also strong connections with GK design group (Japan), Shizuoka University of Art and Culture, Southampton Solent University (United Kingdom), Ukrainian association of graphic designers “4th block” (www.4block.org) and Kharkov State Academy of Arts. National role
We organize international biennale ECODESIGN, which includes conference, exhibitions and student competition. By ECODESIGN conference we bring the best design institutions of Russia together with our international partners to outline the common level of design and to set the standards for educational process.
Another impact is interaction with local design industry, when 3rd year students are given possibility to work in an advertising agencies or other companies dealing with design for three weeks.
