Help shape the future of Design: become a leader in design research

One year fixed term full time position

This role focuses on delivering high quality research in the School of Design specifically related to creative coding projects. The projects will focus on developing either stand-alone software or plug-ins extending digital design tools. An example project includes a JavaScript/WebGL based application that facilitates graphic design solutions incorporating space-filling curves; another project will look at extending 3D software (Cinema4D or Rhino) for procedurally simulating cellular growth (nails, claws, horns, hair, shells, plants). Projects will also target art and design outputs as well as publications.

The appointed candidate should have significant experience and knowledge in current design research methods and practices and should have substantial expertise in one or more of the following areas:
• Methods and practices of digital design and production;
• Creative Coding (JavaScript, WebGL, COFFEE, C++, Python, Grasshopper);
• Mathematics (or the ability to research and implement mathematic solutions through code)

The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate an existing research programme, and/or creative practice, and will have identified strategies for further developing his or her research/creative practice within the School of Design’s strategic research areas. Please include a covering letter, CV, and portfolio of creative work (web based portfolios are preferred).
