Senior Medical Device Designer Research/Medical Device Design Researcher – Specific Purpose Contract

Salary Scale: Senior Medical Device Design Researcher €64,125 – €66,925 p.a. (maximum starting salary €64,125 p.a.)
Medical Device Design Researcher €52,716 – €57,442 p.a.

The Design Factors Research Group in the School of Design, in conjunction with the Graduate Entry Medical School and the Health Research Institute, secured financial support from Enterprise Ireland under the Commercialisation Fund scheme to develop and commercialise a medical device concept to prevent catheter related infections for patients who have central venous catheters.

Many patients require central venous catheters for their medical treatment. The Stath-Guard project will develop a novel catheter securement device which offers patients a higher quality of life enabling them to maintain activities of daily living, while also helping to reduce catheter related infections, which are a considerable cause of mortality.

The role will involve collaboration and research with medical staff and patients to detail the clinical requirements for the design. The candidate will also collaborate with other researchers in the group to refine and develop the product considering user centered design requirements, clinical requirement, the burden of proof, biomedical engineering requirements, manufacturing aspects, and intellectual property.
