In Paris College of Art’s Summer program you will enhance your creative practice, develop your creative thinking and hone your skills while having fun with students from all over the world. You will gain an intimate knowledge of the city of Paris through field trips bringing you in contact with the behind the scenes workings of the design and art industries. Course offerings are available in the following areas: Art History, Fine Arts, Fashion Design, Interior Design, Photography.

ART HISTORY
Paris through its Museums & Artistic Sites Through visits to artistic and historical sites and classroom discussions, you will explore the rich cultural and historical heritage of Paris, as it has come down to us from the Middle Ages to the present day, will be explores through a dynamic program of venturing into the city to learn about its cultural resources.

FINE ARTS
Drawing for Portfolio in Paris:
Skills Development

Pre-college level students will be introduced to different materials and methods of drawing. You will learn how to see, study the basic nature of drawing materials and how to use pencil, ink and watercolor with skill and control. The most important questions of drawing will be investigated: composition, line, form, light & shadow, etc. as applied to the still life, the model, and nature.

Drawing for Portfolio in Paris:
Concept Development

This course will provide an advanced investigation of materials and methods with greater emphasis on experimentation and contemporary forms of drawing.

Experimental Drawing

In this course, you will develop a basic knowledge of contemporary drawing through an experimental approach, attending workshops, field trips and studio sessions. We will dissect Paris through the lens of drawing: its distinct urban energy, the storied clichés, the rich art and food cultures.

Are you looking to build a one of a kind portfolio to apply to undergraduate or graduate programs? Would you like to learn to make a beautiful book?

PHOTOGRAPHY & FILM
Paris in Black & White

During this two-week intensive course we will explore the history and techniques of Black & White (B&W) photography using Paris as it’s backdrop.

Editorial Fashion Photography

This interdisciplinary course will provide an overview of the creation of a fashion editorial for a magazine. With a main focus on art direction, you will be introduced to all the steps and aspects involved in a fashion editorial photo-story, from initial research and mood board construction to styling, photography and magazine.

Documentary Photography in Paris: Capturing the Essence of a City

This course will focus on capturing the essence of life in Paris in its diversity. You will use photography to explore and document different sides of the French capital, progressively becoming engaged into a relevant photographic project on the City of Light, and acquire a better understanding of the steps involved in a creative photographic process.

Paris Fashion Week:
Street Style Fashion Photography

Through a series of workshops during Haute Couture Paris Fashion week you will be introduced to street style fashion portraiture whilst developing refined camera craft skills in lighting in composition. You will also produce a digital folio and self published book, all within the breathtaking backdrop of Paris.

The Basics of Filmmaking:

This is a hands-on, step-by-step, technical lab class, where editing video will take you beyond the basics to a professional workflow for digital video editing. After Effects will be the main software for moving images, and all essential tools, plug-ins and filters, their options and use, the character of each menu or tool option critical for video editing will be covered at a practical level.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Wonderful Paris: Drawing from Architecture and Interior Design

In this course, you will take a journey in time, and learn to appreciate and discover remarkable places and buildings, their architectural structure and most intricate details, through class lectures and daily outings. You will learn to develop and improve the way you record these monuments through a deep understanding and practice of perspective, as well as multiple rendering techniques.

FASHION DESIGN

Couture Craftsmanship

This course offers to explore fabric construction, surface decoration and textures through a variety of traditional crafts and contemporary processes, ranging from hand and machine knitting, dyeing to surface treatments such as foiling, dévoré, felting, shibori, bonding, to digital printing. From concept development via research book, to experimental swatches, you will learn how to communicate your ideas and translate them into a coherent refined-yet-creative textile collection around a given theme. Special focus will be made on a creative dialogue between construction (knit) and surface treaments and you will be encouraged to propose new fabric ideas.

Fashion Drawing in Paris: 100 Illustrations Challenge

This course will teach you the basics of fashion illustration: the proportions of the “fashion body”, movement and textures. A lot of emphasis however will be placed on using various media and techniques to give you a taste of the various illustration techniques available, pastels and charcoal, watercolor, black ink, collage, gouache. We will visit fashion exhibitions, sketch couture garments and have a life model in class and explore the use of various materials and textures.
