The main tasks of the Head is managing, obtaining the approval of and implementing the school’s internal curriculum within the framework of national prepared diploma programmes and guidelines approved by the institution’s Board of Directors.
The ESAD of Reims invites application for a five years position, renewable for a 3 year period, as the Head of the school, through statutory (secondment) appointments or contractual appointments.
Heads are tasked with managing, obtaining the approval of and implementing the school’s internal curriculum within the framework of national prepared diploma programmes and guidelines approved by the institution’s Board of Directors. He/she shall organise, direct and coordinate the institution’s educational and administrative activities, instigate initiatives and ensure their coherence, define innovative projects by fostering partnerships and organise the institution’s overall communication.
He/she shall represent the institution in all its various aspects,
He/she shall develop and implement the institution’s educational and cultural projects and shall give an account of such projects to the Board of Directors, he/she shall ensure the execution of the institution’s education and research programmes, he/she shall award national diplomas as well as diplomas specific to the institution.
He/she shall ensure the management of all of the departments, he/she shall have the authority over all of the staff, he/she shall ensure the smooth running of the institution, the observance of academic order and he/she shall exercise disciplinary power,
he/she shall be the authorising officer for the institution’s revenue and expenditure, he/she shall prepare the budget and its amendments and shall ensure the implementation thereof, he/she shall establish the administrative accounts,
he/she shall draw up the deeds, contracts and agreements, under the conditions established by the Board of Directors, he/she shall represent the institution in legal matters and in all areas of civic life.
Within the framework of its internal curriculum, the Head shall pay particular attention to:
Managing the project for the new school in the heart of the Port Colbert district, ensuring both the coherence of the programme and its management in line with the school’s needs, as well as the institution’s integration and synergy with the district’s creative and innovative spirit.
Benefiting from the establishment of this new campus and the new educational project supporting it in order to reaffirm the centres of excellence of the Reims school and to provide it with the means to enhance its international visibility;
Defining the institution’s strategic guidelines, including their conditions for implementation and assessment, by affirming a stance and an objective for the school.
Coordinating and structuring existing research projects, developing new projects and implementing a tailored research organisation that may lead to, where appropriate, the institution of a third cycle.
Researching collaborations with university laboratories, in particular by fostering links and partnerships with the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne, developing partnerships with institutions, universities and art schools in the Greater East network, in France and abroad.
Developing schemes for facilitating student access to employment, for monitoring students following graduation and assessing their effectiveness,
Developing a coherent communication policy,
Strengthening the governance of the institution in its multiple aspects (The Pedagogical and Student Activities Council, the High Council for Research, the Technical Committee etc.),
Ensuring the school’s project is in line with the institution’s financial constraints, diversifying its sources of funding, developing its own resources and developing European funding.
An experienced individual with a background in contemporary design and/or higher education in the arts,
A professional recognised in the world of arts, culture and design,
International project experience and a perfect command of English (knowledge of another foreign language would be an advantage)
In-depth knowledge of the fields of contemporary art, design, communication and related issues
Proven knowledge of the higher education system and the development of research
Knowledge of the rules and procedures for running a French public institution; management experience of a similar institution would be appreciated
Understanding of transversal public policies, institutional networks and public aid mechanisms
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and proven experience in the management of teams with different backgrounds
Experience and strong knowledge of public and private partnership and sponsorship strategies
Experience of teaching in an art school is desirable
Appointment for a period of five years, renewable for an additional three years,
Post holder or contractual employee,
Frequent travel in the Greater East region and in Paris.
