The School of Design at Pforzheim University welcomes applications for the position of Professor (W3) of Media and Cultural Theory in the cross‐disciplinary field of critical studies in art and design. The position is available starting from summer semester, 2018.
The applicant will be responsible for teaching design students at both the undergraduate and the postgraduate levels. Applicants must be sufficiently proficient in English to teach classes in English.
The successful candidate will have research expertise and teaching experience in classical and contemporary theory, with a particular emphasis on the media requirements of design practices and structural processes in design practice. The position is based on the Pforzheim model, which is committed to providing a base for all programs across the School of Design through the provision of a foundation in cultural theory and history of design.
Teaching duties include media theory, cultural theory, the theory and history of fashion, the general history of design, perceptual theory and semiotics. The successful candidate will be expected to attract external research funding both independently and in cooperation with other Faculties, and to collaborate with the Professor of Art and Design Theory to enhance the research profile of the School of Design.
Applicants must provide evidence of relevant research publications and previous research funding, and should have a record of substantive, independent research initiatives.Teaching experience at the level of higher education, as well as significant professional experience outside the university, are required. Applicants should also be actively involved in European design networks.
The successfull candidate is expected to participate in University administration, to play a leading role with respect to inter‐ and transdisciplinary collaboration with other Faculties, and to take part in the University’s international activities.
The position requires a completed university degree, an earned doctorate and the completion of the Habilitation or Habilitation‐equivalent, and at least five years of professional experience ‐ of which at least three years must be from outside the field of higher education.
