We gladly announce our 8th Sustainable Summer School, taking place at Nikolaus Monastery in Jüchen, Germany from August 12 to 19, 2018! For this Summer School we invite students and young professionals from all over the world to discover the topic of “Smartphones, Resources and Human Rights“. You can find all additional information on: www.sustainable-summer-school.org
The introduction of smartphones is one of the most striking cultural innovations since the invention of printing. Within one decade, smartphones have radically effected on our everyday lives. These revolutionary innovation is just about to accelerate the changes in our lives, our cultural and economic patterns, and even of our bodies in an unprecedented manner. On the other hand, smartphone production and use has enormous impacts on material flows around the globe, challenging all efforts towards a circular economy. The impacts are not limited to the resources of the planet only, but affect as well all the people who are ensnared into the extraction of resources, their well-being, their political and ecological situation, and their human right situation. We will immerse into these challenging contexts in a one-week intensive workshop with a strong trans-disciplinary approach.
