The SIA International Summer School provides students with experience of some of the many opportunities that a university education can provide artists and designers. We are keen to show students the whole range of exciting experiences available to them. SIA Summer School courses are non-credit bearing but students will receive a certificate of attendance. The course aims to provide a mix of experiential learning in preparation for future study within a UK university. You will be taught a range of core skills associated with creative design thinking and be introduced to some of the equipment and resources available to you. You will also absorb some of the culture and history around Sheffield area together with a visit to London for a few days.
The residential summer school is a fantastic opportunity to find out more about applying to university and to gain an insight into UK Learning Experience by working on short projects and working with academic staff across a number of art & design courses.

The School of Humanities at London’s Royal College of Art will be in New York on 13-14 June to present new developments in its graduate programmes. The RCA’s School of Humanities offers interdisciplinary training in critical, curatorial, historical and theoretical approaches to art, design and architecture, at the heart of the world’s leading university of art and design (QS, 2015 & 2016) in London. Graduates take leadership roles in universities, museums and galleries, arts programming, journalism and publishing, or professions as independent researchers and writers. Two year MA programmes include Curating Contemporary Art, Critical Writing in Art and Design, and History of Design, run in partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum, another world-leading centre for scholarship and creativity.
In 2016/7, the School will launch MRes Humanities, a new and distinct one-year Master’s in Research programme that will foster experimentation, risk-taking and critical and creative thinking through humanities research. The V&A/RCA MA in History of Design will fully launch its new programme integrating practice-based, public-facing methods with design and material culture-led research.

We are looking for interested students and industry professionals to apply to participate in our interdisciplinary design event.
The Expo as Global Village: Future Ways of Living event will explore how new media technologies will impact our daily lives and how they will transform societal systems over the next 10 years. This will be done using the Milan Expo grounds as a case study for imagining how these transformations will manifest. This event will be organized by the Institute without Boundaries (IwB), a Toronto-based academic program, think tank, and studio that offers unique educational experiences and professional services.
The event is taking place in the last two weeks of June at the former Milan Expo site.

Call for Cases
Every autumn, the Tongji University College of Design and Innovation organises a small, highly interactive conference on design research and design education titled “Emerging Practices” (EPC). Since the first EPC in 2012, this has become an annual forum for debates on such themes as new practices, values, and approaches arising in design and design education; open design; influences on developing practices; DesignX; and design activism.
As a feature event in the framework of Shanghai Design Week, EPC2016 will be held this coming October, organized by the College of Design and Innovation at Tongji University in cooperation with several partner universities. This conference is an initiative endorsed by CUMULUS and DESIS.
