Associate professor of interaction design

At the Department of Design, there is a vacancy for a fixed term six-year contract as associate professor (100%) in interaction design. The position is available from 1 August 2020.

Work tasks/research field:

We are looking for an associate professor for teaching and research-related assignments within the department’s specialization areas. Applicants are expected to have a background from graphic design with the main emphasis on interaction. We seek a strong design professional with the relevant expertise and ambition to explore and challenge the boundaries of what critical interaction design is and can be, through varied expressions and media. The applicant must have an understanding of and be able to reflect critically on the profession’s relevance to the real challenges the world and society face today, especially in connection with technological developments and their effects. Therefore, applicants who prefer their projects to address social and cultural conditions in a critical and / or transformative approach are preferred. A strong visual and conceptual expertise will also be given priority. Applicants should have extensive practical experience and the ability to position design in a larger historical and social context. Applicants must be well articulated in design and aware of the field’s broader relevance for visual culture and interdisciplinary collaboration. Applicants must master programming for interactive visual prototyping and have experience with “open-source methodology”.

Relevant applicants must have experience with visual research and research through design and be able to integrate their work within their own teaching practice. We are looking for a designer who can engage and inspire through tutoring and encourage professional experimentation through practice and advise on the application of relevant theory.

The associate professor will work closely with all the academic staff and participate in professional discussions about the institute’s research and teaching profiles.
