Call for Visiting Postdoctoral researchers – Research project: Costume Methodologies, Aalto University
The Costume in Focus (CiF) research group based at the Department of Film, TV & Scenography, Aalto University, is seeking two short-term Visiting Post-doctoral Researchers to develop their own publication within the FiDiPro research project Costume Methodologies – Building methodological tools for research in the field of costume design, funded by the Academy of Finland.
The selected researchers will be given the opportunity to work on a topic of their choice, already in progress, with a desired focus on methods and approaches for researching costume, with the aim of preparing publication-ready work. The researchers will work in a supportive environment with like-minded people in the field.
The duties and responsibilities are as follows:
- Work towards completion of a scientific publication as above
- Share the work in a research seminar
- Participate in the informal meetings of the CiF research group
About the project
The main objective of the Costume Methodologies research project is to establish a methodological strategy to investigate the creation, production and function of costume in all areas of the performing arts – theatre, opera, dance and other stage- or site-specific live performance – as well as in film, television and other camera- and media-based creative projects involving costume. The case studies involved in the project investigate different perspectives of costume, using a variety of interrelated, cross-disciplinary methods and materials, such as archival records, visual materials, documents and literary sources, interviews and oral history, digital technologies, and new creative work developed through artistic research processes. The Visiting Post-doctoral Researchers’ topics of research should contribute towards new methodological approaches to researching costume in performance, through a specific case study or theoretical perspective.
Key selection criteria
- A doctoral degree in a relevant field or subject.
- Research experience in the field of costume design or related fields.
- A focused research topic and a feasible research plan.
- Ability to publish in academic English.
Duration, salary and place of work
Each Visiting Post-doctoral Researcher will be funded for a period of 2 months between January-June 2017. The salary will be paid according to the University’s salary scheme and the project’s funding. The position is located at the Department of Film, Television and Scenography, Aalto University (for more information, please see http://elo.aalto.fi/en/ ). The primary location will be Otaniemi, Espoo.
