We are proud to share that this year the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Universidad de los Andes will be the host of the global conference CUMULUS BOGOTÁ 2019 to be held between October 30 and November 1, 2019.

Cumulus is an organization founded in 1990 that has 299 members from 56 different countries and brings together the highest-level educational institutions in the world to serve art, design, education and research. It is the perfect scenario to create networks of cooperation and innovation and to transfer knowledge and best practices. Cumulus has been organizing two annual conferences for over twenty years, held in different parts of the world. The Faculty of Architecture and Design at Universidad de los Andes has been part of this organization since 2013 and is fortunate to host this meeting that only has taken place once in Latin America.

The theme “The Design After” invites us to reflect about the moment of expansion, recognition, mutation and integration that design lives. Design retains its identity and transcends the realm of the tangible to become a form of thought and dialogue. Amid these processes, it is worth thinking about how design can express another vision of human beings, their cultures and the ecosystems that surround them. CUMULUS BOGOTÁ 2019, places us in this transition, at a border crossing, in a contradictory and vital place.

THE DESIGN AFTER is based on five research tracks: Sensing the City, Sensing the Rural; Somewhere, Nowhere, Anyone, Everyone; Fiction and De-innovation; Design and Counterculture and Biodiversity- Driven Design.

The conference will have parallel sessions, discussion panels, research presentations an internationally recognized keynote speakers such as:
– Brigitte Baptiste rector of Universidad EAN and ex-director of the Humboldt Institute
– Martín Tironi specialist in smart cities, urban mobility and infrastructure
– Dori Tunstall expert in design anthropology and one of the 100 most important women in Canada
– Monika Bielskyte specialist in VR, AR, AI and hybrids that connect cutting edge technologies with creativity
– Daniel Grushkin co-founder and director of Genspace and director of the Biodesign Challenge

The proceedings of the event will be published. Several activities have been organized, such as social and cultural events that promote the integration of the audience and stimulate discussion on design, architecture and art. The meeting will involve national and international academics, industry representatives, designers, artists and architects.
