Offenbach University of Art and Design (Main, Germany) is looking for a W2-Professor for Design Theory (f/d/m) starting this WiSe 21/22 at the department of Design.

Design theory means the consideration and negotiation of specific aspects relevant to the discipline of design and its design-historical contexts.

As an art college of the state of Hesse, the HfG Offenbach practices contemporary and future-oriented teaching characterized by a multifaceted exchange between the liberal, applied and theoretical disciplines. The HfG has two departments, Art and Design, and holds the right to award doctorates.

The professorship for design theory offers the opportunity for the further development of both an own forward-looking focus in design research and a critical position in and on design.

The position is an integral part of a holistic didactic and research strategy: students can choose from the range of subjects Digital Design, Industrial Design, Information Design, Integrated Design, Material Design, Urban Design, Cultural Theory, Aesthetics and Design Theory and set new links and goals in agile project work.

Your Tasks

We are looking for a committed person (f/d/m) with special aptitude, openness and motivation for the explorative and collaborative elaboration of design-scientific findings.

Didactic and distinctive pedagogical skills, as well as a high level of social competence are considered as indispensable as the willingness to participate in committees and to supervise and review doctoral theses in the context of the Offenbach PhD program.

 

Your Profile

*   A university degree in design and a doctorate in design science, also within a humanities degree, as well as teaching experience in the academic context of design are required.

*   Relevant publications in international peer reviewed journals in design are also required.

*   Professional work in the design of products or systems is desirable.

 

The Offenbach University of Art and Design aims to increase the number of women in research and teaching in the Design Department and therefore strongly encourages qualified women to apply.

The hiring requirements of Sections 61 and 62 of the Hessian Higher Education Act apply. The full-time position has a teaching load of 8 course hours in accordance with § 3 paragraph 3 of the Teaching Obligations Ordinance. The full-time position is generally divisible (except for civil servant positions). The appointment is initially limited to 6 years. A later conversion into a life-time professorship is possible upon appropriate evaluation.
