Providing effective leadership and support for art, design, creative media and related disciplines in Higher Education to inspire the next generation of creative professionals and world citizens and help shape the creative economy.
CHEAD has formerly been mainly a domestic and European network but in the context of preparing for Brexit we are in the process of extending our activities. Following recent visit to India and meetings with a number of Indian higher education institutions in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmadabad, CHEAD is currently founding an associate organisation in India and will organise a collaborative showcase of art and design research driving innovation at the CII Design Summit in India this year. We are also reaching out to equivalent organisations in China, Singapore and Australia as well as strengthening our links with EU organisations such as ELIA. Our annual conference this year was themed around international cooperation and included representatives from partner universities in Europe, India and China as well as the British Council.
CHEAD is a non-geographic organisation based in a number of universities across the four nations of the UK. We work with our domestic network of 60+ higher education institutions providing graduate and post-graduate courses in art, design and creative media to consult, inform, and shape the sector, provide relevant analysis and representation to governmental organisations as well as our membership, and to enhance collaboration across the sector. We work closely with relevant sector bodies including the Creative Industries Federation, Design Council, Crafts Council, GuildHE, University Alliance, Arts Council, All Party Design & Innovation Group, the Localis, and many others. We also work with industry via non-profit initiatives, for example we are currently working with Canon Europe to promote the use of visual narrative and culture in teaching across the curriculum.
