mission statement

The School of Arts & Creative Industries is one of the largest centres for creative arts education in Scotland, with approximately 1600 students enrolled on a range of undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral programmes. All of these have been particularly successful in attracting high calibre students from around the world, and many of whom have won international awards and progressed on to become major figures in the fields that we represent.

The School of Arts & Creative Industries has a number of overseas teaching and research collaborations in Europe, China, India, Australasia, North America and South America

national role

The School of Arts & Creative Industries has a strong presence in Art, Design and Media in UK Higher Education, and is extensively involved with projects and activities on a national and local level. A large number of staff in the School hold external examiner positions at other UK and European Institutions, and work in an advisory capacity with external bodies. Staff and students across the school are regularly involved with live projects in industry and the public sector, and students also partake in a variety of national and international competitions, most notably the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) student design awards, the Art and Design Direction (D&AD) Awards and the Creative Conscience Awards. Design, Photography & Advertising students exhibit their work at our annual degree show in Edinurgh every May, and Film students hold annual screenings. Design and Photography students go on to exhibit their work at the annual New Designers, New Blood, and Free Range exhibitions in London, every July.

research activity and main areas

The School of Arts Creative Industries has an active and vibrant research culture accross all subject areas, with staff making regular contributuions to international conferences, publications, books, exhibitions, film screenings, performances, and cultural events along with consultancy and knowledge exchange work.

subject areas for exchange students

Under University regulations all students in the School of Arts & Creative Industries can apply for an exchange programme for one semester, with support through the erasmus scheme.
