Grenoble Ecole de Management (GEM) is the First French ‘Grande Ecole’ Business School to make a statutory commitment to become a “Société à Mission” (the French equivalent to a Benefit Corporation), an opportunity proposed by the PACTE law in France. A raison d'être and co-constructed objectives;
An organization's raison d'être is an expression of how it aims to serve society and a foundation for its decisions. GEM's raison d'être, co-constructed during the development of its new 2020- 2025 strategic plan, is:
To provide responses, through training and research, to the major challenges of the ecological, societal and economic transition and to contribute to a more resilient, fairer, more peaceful and more responsible world.
5 strategic objectives have been defined:
- To act ethically and defend the physical and moral integrity of people: to refuse any behavior or speech that violates the rights, health and dignity of each individual (SDG 3)
- To defend the right to be different, encourage diversity and oppose all forms of discrimination, in particular by ensuring equality between women and men (SDGs 5 and 10)
- To promote access to quality education for all, inclusive work and equal opportunities (SDG 4)
- To promote solidarity and the principles of economic peace and working to eliminate all forms of corruption and violence (SDGs 11, 16 and 17)
- To recognize the ecological emergency by actively fighting against global warming by preserving natural resources and biodiversity, in particular through our Zero Waste ambition (SDGs 12 and 13)
These objectives come from the GEM Manifesto for a Sustainable Future, that was co-created by the School's staff, students and associations (within the framework of the Sustainability Committee), and that has also defined the School's Five Social Engagements.

With almost 100 active, permanent researchers, strong doctoral programs, a large number of European and national research grants, substantial corporate and institutional partnerships, and a vibrant, cooperative research culture, we are proud to figure today among the leading management research organizations in Europe in terms of research output as well as impact.
Research at GEM aims at creating high-level, meaningful knowledge for all our stakeholders including academia, alumni, partner organizations, and society. Based on GEM's unique expertise at the nexus of technology, innovation, society, and organization, we seek to leverage research across established disciplines to address societal challenges in health, energy, digitization, and urban transformation. We co-construct research initiatives with our partners and translate scholarly into actionable knowledge.
Research at GEM is conducted in eight research teams: Alternative Forms of Markets and Organizations (AFMO), Organization, Identity, Work and Careers (OWIC), Finance, Innovation, and Governance (FIG), Consumer Behavior, Marketing, Strategy, and Innovation (MSI), Strategy, Collective Action and Technology (SCAT), Energy Management and Entrepreneurship. These teams provide rich and stimulating scholarly contexts for our permanent researchers, post-docs and doctoral students.
Across research teams, we build on four large thematic, collaborative platforms to develop and coordinate research and dissemination activities, established in partnership with our external stakeholders, to address important societal issues. Health, Digital Transformation, Energy and Society and Sharing Economy and Urban Transformation.
Our innovative and collaborative research organization combined with our researchers' curiosity and pursuit of academic excellence makes us a vital actor in European management research.

Exchange with Design Institutes
Grenoble Ecole de Management has its focus on Technology Management and Innovation. Co-operation with Design Schools therefore makes a lot of sense. Business students needs to be educated to work with actors in the creative fields. GEM offers design students to develop their background in business and entrepreneurship. In our perspective those hybrid profiles are very important.
