Professor/ Associate Professor of Furniture Design at KHIO Norway

The Department of Design is currently recruiting for one 50 % position as Professor/Associate Professor in Furniture Design. The position is vacant from August 1st, 2019. It is fixed-term position for 6 years with the possibility of extension for a further period after public announcement.
The position as professor / associate professor 50% in furniture design requires close collaboration between the Head of Programme of Interior Architecture and Furniture Design and academic staff within these disciplines. The work tasks will include teaching across the BA and MA programme, research, committee work as well as participation in administrative tasks relating to the Department of Design as a whole and his or her field of responsibility. It is expected that the teaching will be closely connected to candidate’s own design practice and research. The associate professor/professor reports to the Dean.
The appointed employee is expected to actively participate in the academic and pedagogical discussion and contribute to an experimental, critical, conceptual and contextual thinking and approach in within field of furniture design where the academic approach and the subject area’s autonomy and identity are characterized by being part of an art college.
It is also expected that the appointed employee has extensive practical skills and experience in making and developing furniture objects with use of both traditional and contemporary manufacturing processes. The focus in production will be in making prototypes and small series of furniture objects, but it is an advantage if a successful applicant has experience with a mass production.

Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHIO) is Norway’s largest college of higher education for artists and designers. KHIO has six faculties: the Academy of Dance, the Academy of Opera, the Academy of Theatre, the Academy of Fine Art, the Department of Art and Craft and the Department of Design. KHIO offers numerous courses of studies at bachelor’s and master’s degree level within these main disciplines. The academic community at KHIO is active within artistic research and development.
The Department of Design currently offers a three-year BFA and a two-year MFA within several fields such as interior architecture, furniture design, fashion design, costume design, graphic design and illustration, together with a PhD programme for artistic research.
