HDK – Academy of Design and Crafts will merge with Valand Academy on 1 January 2020. Along with the Academy of Music and Drama, the new academy HDK-Valand – Academy of Art and Design together form Scandinavia’s biggest Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, offering a unique breadth in artistic education and research. We are centrally located in Gothenburg and collaborate closely with actors in local and regional cultural life, as well as having a wide-ranging international network and many international partners.
Valand Academy is recruiting a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art. The appointment is for five years and mainly entails teaching at second-cycle level.
The role involves teaching in the MFA Programme in Fine Art. The language of instruction is English. This international programme seeks to place emphasis on interrogating the role/s of the artist in society and concepts of publicness. Students are taught to develop inquiry-driven methods in order to interrogate and contribute critically rigorous artistic responses to key challenges of our times.
The applicant is expected to participate in teaching, supervision and examination; and course development, management and delivery, including supporting the University’s stated aim to further integrate education and research. They should also be prepared to play a prominent role in the work of the department by participating in its development and change processes related to Valand Academy’s forthcoming merger with (the Academy of Design and Crafts (HDK), and in furthering cooperation internally at the University of Gothenburg, and more broadly with the rest of society.
