Special Call for Cumulus Membership to targeted countries
Application deadline January 10, 2020
To advance the Cumulus membership, to welcome members from regions and countries not yet represented in Cumulus to join the association and to partner and share with existing Cumulus members.
Cumulus seeks to strengthen the partnership of existing Cumulus members and, as Cumulus itself, members from regions not represented yet. Cumulus evaluates and reasons its offering with the World Bank Classification of Country Income Groups that shows high, upper mid, lower mid and low income countries. Please see https://blogs.worldbank.org/opendata/new-country-classifications-income-level-2017-2018. The secretariat has benchmarked a number of international associations and proposed the model of IFHP (International Housing and Planning Association) to be implemented as following:
For this special call, Cumulus welcomes membership applications from the countries as classified by World Bank as low income countries to apply in the 2020 intake closing on January 10, 2020 and to get the membership in Cumulus General Assembly taking place in Rome Italy during the Cumulus Conference Roma: Design Culture(s) on 16-19 June 2020. These applicants apply and follow the same conditions as any other new full or associate member.
The categories stem from the UN Statistical Office (updated on regular basis):
Please see the list (as of 2018) Country-list-B 2018 .
As decided in the Cumulus Rovaniemi General Assembly May 2019:
Applicants from Low Income countries as classified by World Bank:
The Cumulus membership, based on a positive application result, is given to the member applicants defined as low income country by the World Bank (listing 2018) for free in the years 2020 and 2021 and for the future as following:
When applying, the applicant understands it is mandatory for this new member to mobilize a minimum one person from the institution to participate at least in one annual Cumulus conference during the 1st and 2nd membership year (in 2020 & 2021). In 2020, the applicant sends (cause of the application process) a minimum of one person to the first conference of June 2020 taking place in Rome Italy that fulfills the mandatory participation requirement of 2020.
The 3rd year, 2022, these new 2020 new members pay a reduced fee, 50% of the membership fee as defined of the General Assembly.
From the 4th membership year onwards, in 2023, they pay the same fee as every other Cumulus member university. The same process as here will be rehearsed in a similar call that will take place for 2021.
This is a pilot as agreed at the Cumulus Rovaniemi General Assembly lasting for two years: 2020 and 2021. Cumulus may adjust the low income country listing used as a basis for the special offer via its next General Assembly taking place in Rome Italy in 2020 for the Cumulus membership applications intake in 2021. Cumulus is entitled to suggest another low income membership fee or move these members as defined by WB to the standard fee category.
