Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle is looking to fill the following position in the Art Faculty at the earliest possible date: Professor of Sculpture / Materiality and Space (pay grade W3)

We are looking for an outstanding and internationally recognized artist whose sculpture work makes a significant contribution to contemporary art.

Their central task is to head the field of study Sculpture / Materiality and Space.
The professorship advocates an open understanding of sculpture. In the field of tension between material and spatial concepts, subjects of teaching should include both classical sculptural working methods and transdisciplinary and technological developments.
Spatial artistic thinking extends sculptural work into the public and social space; it also includes reflection on social contexts.
Thus, the professorship focuses on current discourses on the subject of sculpture, which are applied, reflected and developed further.
The incumbent bears the coordinating responsibility for the subject-specific workshop belonging to the field of study, for which there is a separate workshop director.

Central tasks are:
– Artistic instruction and continuous supervision of students of the Sculpture / Materiality and Space courses.
– Responsibility for the existing metal workshop
– Collaboration in the further development of the Art Faculty, conceptual and professional participation in the further development of the University
– Holding examinations in the courses of study of the faculty
– Participation in the self-governing bodies of the university

In addition to fulfilling the general appointment requirements according to § 35 HSG LSA, the successful candidate is expected to have the following:
– a special aptitude for artistic work, demonstrated by a relevant and extensive body of artistic work that makes a significant contribution to contemporary sculpture, active exhibition activity, and pertinent publications
– a university degree in an artistic field of study or an equivalent qualification
– pedagogical aptitude proven by relevant teaching experience
– excellent knowledge of contemporary art and its discourses, proven experience with both traditional and current sculptural approaches and techniques

The professorship can be held for a limited or unlimited period of up to five years. The decision on this is made during the appointment procedure. If the professorship is limited in time, the possibility of an unlimited appointment will be examined before the end of the limited term. The salary will be determined in accordance with legal and budgetary requirements.

Professor for Painting/Glass (pay grade W2)

We are looking for an exceptional and internationally recognized artist whose autonomous work makes a significant contribution to contemporary art.
Their task is to head the Painting/Glass field of study in the Painting/Graphics degree courses.
The applicant should command a wide spectrum of artistic methods and strategies in the context of a broad definition of painting, opening the field for conceptual and experimental work using different materials and media.
Special emphasis is given to the material glass, which offers specific opportunities for the spectrum of painting.

The incumbent bears coordinating responsibility for the subject-specific workshop that belongs to the course of study, for which there is a separate workshop director.
Central tasks are:
– artistic instruction and continuous supervision of students in the Painting/Glass courses
– further development of the field of study, as well as development and coordination of the associated glass workshop
– collaboration in the further development of the Art Faculty, conceptual and professional participation in the further development of the University
– holding examinations in the courses of study of the faculty
– participation in the self-governing bodies of the university
