The School of design invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Graphic Design: Photographic Image at the rank of assistant professor. With this new position, the École de Design seeks to strengthen its Bachelor and forthcoming Master programme in Graphic design with a new colleague who brings a broad perspective across contemporary image making with competency ranging across print-based and digital graphic technologies.
The successful applicant must have an expertise in graphic design and photography and hold a completed (or near-completion) PhD in the discipline or in a related field. Exceptionnally, candidates holding an MA/MFA and a proven professional record of original contributions to the discipline, sustained research publications, productions, or activities will be considered.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical and theoretical foundation, as well as a broad approach that embraces the changing role of images in society, and be able to pursue a related area of research, scholarship and/or creative practice. Applicants should have the breadth and versatility to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses related to photography and graphic design.
Previous teaching experience is an asset. The successful candidate will also be prepared to participate actively in the undergraduate and future graduate Graphic Design programme, as well as as administrative tasks within the department. The teaching and working language is French, so fluency in this language is required.
Start date for the position is June 1, 2016.
