Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUQatar), offering programs in art and design, is one of six schools from leading American universities and two European institutions, that have established campuses in Education City, Doha, as a result of collaborative agreements between the universities and Qatar Foundation. Each of those universities brings to Qatar educational programs for which those institutions are especially renowned.
Established in 1998, VCUQatar offers students the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in fashion design, graphic design, interior design and painting & printmaking, a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Design. Located in Doha, the capital city of Qatar, VCUQatar is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art & Design, The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation. VCUQatar was the first campus established in Education City and has since been joined by Weill Cornell Medical College, Texas A&aM University, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, Carnegie-Mellon University, Northwestern University, HEC Paris and University College London.

This MFA faculty position will support the development of an exploratory, interdisciplinary studio environment for applied research and theoretical investigations in the first Master of Fine Arts in Design program in the Gulf region. Faculty will teach studio, research and/or theory courses that explore the development of innovative project opportunities and link graduate research to national, regional and international design networks. Candidates must have a strategy for developing connections with business, related professions, and communities beyond the University. The successful candidate will serve on the graduate committee and support collaborations across Education City universities and Qatar Foundation Centers to achieve the Qatar Foundation’s mission to “create a center of excellence in education and research that will help transform Qatar into a knowledge based society.” This MFA track is a two-year program accepting up to 7 students per year.
All faculty in the graduate studies program contribute to a culture of learning through participation and support for the accreditation standards, faculty governance, service, student advising, other university committees as requested and performs all other duties as assigned. Opportunities for regional and international collaboration abound.
The successful candidate will have a masters or terminal degree in design or related field; an established academic career as well as evidence of an established professional career both distinguished by an excellent record of peer-reviewed publications, exhibitions, design projects, or comparable research accomplishment and demonstrated teaching in graduate education. The top candidate will possess expertise in areas that will collaborate closely with other faculty in the MFA in Design Studies program; Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCUQatar. Experience in industrial or product design is beneficial.
