The current key areas of research are design, digital media, audiovisual representation, art, visual culture, welfare architecture and emerging technologies as well as urban planning and design. The school produces specialists and innovators of art, design and architecture with strong artistic and technical skills.

Professor of Interaction Design
The position can be filled in Assistant / Associate / Full Professor level of the Aalto University Tenure track system.
The position will begin during the academic year 2016-17.
Interaction design of digital media, physical products and ubiquitous intelligent environments has passed the phase where development was predominantly technology-driven. Content, meaning, insight and expe-rience have become the key design drivers and thus increasingly central competences for designers. The purpose of the professorship to strengthen and develop teaching and research that addresses these competencies. The new professorship will also be instrumental in bridging digital and physical design as well as digital technology and artistic and human-centred design.
The professor will work in the creative and internationally-recognized environment of the School of ARTS and the Departments of Design and Media. The professor develops and leads research across the departments and schools of Aalto University in close connection with society and in active interaction with the design research community creating links to scholars and professionals in the field. The professor contributes to joint teaching in the Departments of Design and Media, both at the doctoral and MA levels, and supervises and advises doctoral and MA students with their dissertations and theses. As this is a new professorship, the professor will also have an essential role in developing new courses and curricula.
The professor of interaction design shall have a specialization and capability to work broadly within the related disciplines and competence areas of interactive prototyping, new media, physical computing, design for user experience, interaction research, human-centred and collaborative design, human-computer interaction and digital humanities. The professor is expected to have a proven track record of strong contribution in the field of design and constructive and/or practice-based design research.
The applicant is expected to have:
• Doctoral degree in a relevant field
• Cutting-edge research agenda in interaction design
• Teaching experience
• Experience in interaction design practice
• Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration
• International networks within the field of professorship
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their merits in research, teaching, academic leadership and interaction design practice.
Tenure track in Aalto University
The position will be placed on the Aalto University Tenure Track.
