Visual Communication teaching assistant professor or teaching associate professor with concurrent design employment at KADK.

At the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation (KADK) we are advertising for a part-time (50% full time equivalent) teaching assistant professor/teaching associate professor with concurrent design professional employment within the disciplines of Visual Communication.
The position is affiliated with the Department of Visual Design (IVD) and to be filled as soon as possible for a period of maximum 8 years depending on the candidate in question. Permanent employment may be a possibility later on.

Insitute of Visual Design

The Institute of Visual Design provides a framework for teaching, research and artistic development within all forms of visual design. We work with visual identity, visual universes for TV and film, and game development as well as digital products. At the foundation of this is exploring identity, experiences and interaction. We also work with analysing typefaces and developing new ones. We design the future of visual communication and games as well as developing applications for smartphones. In other words, we are working to design communication in all ways and for all platforms.

The Institute offers of two undergraduate programmes and four graduate programmes, providing the professional development environments across the field of design and architecture.
At the Institute of Visual Design at KADK we strive to build the best possible education for the future generations of visual designers – designers who know why they are designers, and who are able to meet, utilize and challenge the new cultures, policies, markets and technologies that the future may bring.

To help us strengthen our staff capacity we are looking for an experienced and highly motivated designer who is strong in both concept development and craftsmanship, and who knows how to combine these two.

A designer who can guide our students in finding new commercial and artistic narratives, and who knows how to turn these narratives into strategies and concepts in different media, both analogue and digital.

Job description

The position includes teaching and planning primarily in the 3 year undergraduate program Visual Communication, which takes in approximately 20 students per year.

We are looking for a candidate with:

• A broad teaching experience within the field of visual communication, as varied as information graphics,
visual identities and exhibition design.
• In depth knowledge of design history and ability to make it relevant in teaching.
• Skills as an inspiring communicator with a good understanding of working with larger groups as well as having a keen eye for the development of the individual student’s skills.
• And understanding that teaching at KADK is based on three kinds of knowledge: practical experience, scientific research and artistic development, and a clear sense of how to include this in teaching.
• An ability to plan and carry out study plans, including coordination with the other programs
• Capabilities in the daily planning of teaching, including participating in evaluations and reviews and the programmes on-going development and operation
• Skills in supporting the development of curriculum and teaching content for the training and development of teaching materials
If you are employed as a Teaching Assistant Professor, you will be provided with educational supervision and guidance during the employment period.

Qualification requirements

Employment as a teaching assistant professor requires you to document:
• A graduate level degree equivalent to a Danish master degree from a recognized school of design, architecture or equivalent school.
• Present concurrent employment within the design profession and updated, actual experience with the discipline visual communications, including insight and knowledge in general about the design profession
• At least 3 years of professional design experience and evidence of participation in creating / producing and current design professional business
• Educational and teaching experience from a higher education
• Good and developed skills for communication
• Good interpersonal skills, ie the applicant can/ will enter in educational academic collaborations
• Innovation in terms of employment opportunities for future designers.
Experience in supporting curriculum development within the field of design will be seen as an additional desired qualification

Employment as a teaching associate professor requires furthermore:
• At least 6 years of professional design experience including significant participation in creative /producing and current design professional business on a high international level
• Specialized knowledge regarding design and visual communication on a high level
• Professional postgraduate teacher training or equivalent qualifications

Salary and conditions for employment

The teaching assistant professorship is to be filled as soon as possible and for a period of maximum 8 years depending on the candidate in question. The average working week is 50% of a full-time employment, corresponding to 18.5 hours per week.
Remuneration and employment terms is subject to the current agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and item 5.2 of the Executive Order on job structure for artistic and scientific staff at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation, Aarhus School of Architecture and Design School Kolding – Executive Order no. 962 of 24 August 2015
Salary supplements may be negotiated based on specific qualifications.
